The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is leading a delegation of companies from its regions at COMPUTEX 2021, a global trade show targeting leaders in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, which opened on May 31. Within the remit of Star Venture programme, the EBRD has also mobilized a cohort of start-ups, which will participate in the trade show for the first time.

The group has up to 30 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and high-potential start-ups from 38 economies where the EBRD invests. They have the opportunity to attend the event thanks to support from the TaiwanBusiness – EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund.

Organised by TAITRA (The Taiwan External Trade Development Council) the COMPUTEX exhibition takes place from May 31 to June 30 in a virtual format, powered by artificial intelligence. The event is dedicated to the global technology ecosystem and includes topics such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, 5G, edge computing and cyber security.

The EBRD visitors have a chance to connect with other entrepreneurs and exchange industry insights. In addition, ten start-ups selected from a pool of ICT pioneers are exhibiting their businesses at the EBRD’s virtual pavilion and pitch their technologies to manufacturers and prospective buyers.

Facilitated by the EBRD’s Business Matching and Development program which promotes international business exchange and knowledge transfer, the global exhibition aims to raise the profile of SMEs that are embracing the digital wave and are poised to become the next tech-disruptors.

The program helps SMEs access international know-how and connect with like-minded executives with whom they will share best practices and catch up on the latest ICT trends. The Bank aims to create new business opportunities for SMEs and start-ups to cooperate and trade in order to establish cross-regional partnerships for growth and become more competitive.

ICT, a rapidly growing sector in the EBRD’s regions, presents strong business development opportunities for SMEs. High-tech enterprises drive innovative solutions to emerging global challenges and have an important role to play in fostering a diversified, sustainable economy that encourages competitiveness and access to foreign markets.
