Smart tech, green tech, IoT and gaming high on EBRD’s purchase list

Leading tech companies from Azerbaijan, Egypt and Romania have smart tech, green tech, IoT, gaming and other ICT items high on their purchase lists as they join the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) delegation, in a business matching trip to Taipei where the world’s second largest ITC show, COMPUTEX 2019, is being held.

Delegates of these companies — like their counterparts from other European countries that have come with the EBRD delegation for the event — are targeting big-name companies like Acer and Advantech and for prospective partnerships and other business opportunities during their visit to Taipei.
Having attended COMPUTEX TAIPEI three times already, Emin Guliyev, general manager of DiVi, is more excited about the business matchmaking meetings. As one of the biggest and fast-growing distribution companies in Azerbaijan, DiVi distributes electronic equipment from such well-known brands as Epson, Acer, Canon and Kingston. This time, Guliyev is focusing on gaming products and smart city technologies. He hopes to refresh relationships with existing business partners, as well as expand into new markets for smart home solutions and IoT products.
As the gaming industry is booming in Azerbaijan, and as Taiwan is a leader in this industry, Guliyev said he is eyeing innovative gaming products at this year’s procurement meetings. As for smart city applications, Guliyev said: “Since our capital city Baku is almost the same size as Taipei, [Taipei serves as] a great model for us to build a smart city.”
While Guliyev’s company is targeting gaming and smart city solutions, Egypt-based electronics wholesaler, Uni Group is looking for cooperation in the area of IoT. “We need to take the preemptive opportunities because it’s a potential industry in Egypt,” CEO Abd AlMoniem Khawaga said. His company is expanding and has a head start in the IoT market.
Although his company maintains good partnerships with Chinese suppliers whose prices are relatively cheaper, Khawaga said he attaches importance to the strength of the ICT industry in Taiwan, which produces products of reliable quality. “The mobile phone industry in China is stronger [but] Taiwan is way ahead in IoT products and smart city solutions,” Tamer Abdenaby Aglan, IT consultant of Uni Group, said.
Another EBRD delegate eyeing IoT products and smart devices is BIT Software, a Romania-based company offering cloud business software. Since BIT focuses on precision agriculture, it is seeking hardware such as GPS sensors, monitoring devices and tracking devices to enhance the development of smart farming systems.
With green energy growing in Romania, BIT general manager Remus Cazacu has highlighted smart greenhouse sensors as his main target during this visit. Having built strong partnerships with ICT industry leaders like Microsoft, Oracle, Google and Amazon, Cazacu aims to find IoT sensor hardware so as to boost BIT’s cloud computing software. He listed Advantech as a potential partner during the procurement meetings.
The EBRD delegation is one of the prominent international groups participating in COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2019. This year, it led 24 specially selected ICT companies from 10 European countries to attend the event. The EBRD is assisting its members in seeking Taiwanese partners as prime vendors.
